Listening to one’s gut feelings is what she recommends and has worked for her.

Kara Scott’s early life and childhood:

Kara was born on August 11th, 1975, in Northern Alberta, Canada. She grew up with her brother and sister in a small town of 600 people. With only two TV channels available in the region then, she would repeatedly watch science-fiction movies. It inspired her to train in Muay Thai as a child so that she could fight like the characters in the movies. Still not involved in the hustle and bustle of a big city, she would read books and play cards with her family and friends. Poker was among the games she played as a child, which later defined her career and life path (more on that later). She had a total of six Muay Thai fights, out of which she impressively won four. She wanted to move to a developing country and work in the education sector as an adult. She has a bachelor’s degree in Education and Linguistics from Canada. Furthermore, she moved to London in 1999 to continue her education and teach at a school. Her memorable story from this period was when a student wanted to set her on fire in her early teaching months.

Kara Scott’s Poker and Journalism Journey:

Having a background in martial arts, Kara got a job to present a Muay Thai TV program in London. This was the beginning of a series of events that reunited Kara with poker, which later defined her career. Gaining experience in TV, Kara soon entered the world of games and managed to be the host of the World Series of Backgammon in 2006. The producers of a poker TV show got to know Kara from her Backgammon program and proposed she join their team. The show Poker Night Live wanted a novice who would ask lots of questions and a pro poker player would commentate on the mistakes. The show’s audience could also send emails to mention the mistakes the player made according to their opinion. Kara’s journey started as a TV presenter and host, but the Poker Night Live show made her a pro poker player besides being a host. She has been working on poker-related content ever since.

Kara later joined Sky Television to be one of the Sky Poker hosts in 2007. A recognizable face in the poker world, she went on to host the European Poker Tour 2007/2008 seasons as well. She also started to participate in poker tournaments around this time to showcase her poker talent along with her journalism career. She finished 6th on PartyPoker.com Women’s World Open for $5,000 in 2007. In addition, she won the PartyPoker Sports Stars Challenge III in 2008 for $50,997. She also participated in WSOP in 2008 where she finished 104th for $41,000. Her biggest win to date happened at PaddyPower Irish Poker Open 2009, where she finished second for $413,612. She paid her debts, backpacked, and left for the USA for a new chapter of her life.
